RE: Student Breakfast and Lunch Dear Parents/Guardians: This school year will be the first year in a few years that all student meals will not be free. The full pay student price is $2.05 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. I encourage you to please fill out a free/reduced lunch application whether you feel you qualify or not. If you do qualify, it assists our school in other areas such as federal funding and technology funding as well as decreasing your financial burden. If you have not filled out the application or you have had a change in life circumstances such as a decrease in pay, etc., you may access it online at: https://ok.wengage.com/Waukomis/account/login?ReturnUrl=%2fwaukomis. Go to your guardian portal and the form is under enrollment. If you need assistance, please call your child’s school office and we will be glad to assist you. You can now pay your child’s lunch bill with a credit or debit card from your guardian portal as well! NOTE: If a parent/guardian completes a free or reduced-price meal application in July or August 2022 and that meal application is approved for free or reduced-price meals, they will be eligible for Summer 2022 P-EBT benefits retroactively when pick-up files are sent to DHS in October. This will only apply to Summer 2022 benefits. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s lunch application, contact us and we will be glad to assist you. Sincerely, David W. Brewer, Superintendent

Elementary parents The new school year is off and running! It has been a great start and the kids have been doing well! I feel one area we can improve is our morning drop off. Please pull your vehicle all the way up when dropping off your child so we can utilize the whole driveway and vehicles behind you can pull up as well. If you choose to walk your child to the front of the elementary please park in the grass on east side of school then walk your child. Thank you and let’s have a great year!!

Notice of Changes to Waukomis Public Schools’ Wireless Device Policy Dear Waukomis Public Schools Students and Families: No student cell phones, air pods, Bluetooth headphones, or smart watches will be allowed to be in use at the school during the school day. Cell phones must be turned off and stored during the entirety of the school day. The only exception is before school, at lunch, and after school. Any style of Bluetooth headphones will not be allowed in any school buildings including the cafeteria. During class students may NOT use their phones for calculators, checking time, music, reading a book, checking their grades, or for any other reason. If there is a medical reason to use a cell phone, that may be allowed per a 504 or health plan, with prior approval. Phones will not be allowed during P.E. or class change. Students will not be allowed to use phones in the hallway or restroom. We understand that it is difficult to feel out of touch, but parents can call the office to relay messages to students or reach their student by email in grades 7-12. Some of the difficulties we face with hundreds of cell phones being used by students include the possibility of: Students taking pictures in the classroom of other students without permission and posting to social media. Students continuously taking out phones during class and in locker rooms. Students taking pictures/videos and posting on TikTok during the school day. Students watching movies/listening to music while in class. Students participating in group texts/chats during the day to make fun of other students and teacher. A description of the consequences for not following approved Waukomis Public Schools policies will be provided at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Thank you for your support as Waukomis Public Schools continuously strives to educate your child in a safe environment that is free from distractions. Sincerely, David W. Brewer Superintendent
